QC eyes P14.5-B budget for 2015

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government has proposed a record-breaking P14.5-billion budget to finance various projects in 2015.

Councilor Godofredo Liban filed a measure seeking the city council’s approval on the budget proposal submitted by the local government.

He said the budget will cover various expenditures for the operation of the city government next year.

The proposed budget, if approved, will be higher by more than a billion from this year’s P13.4 billion. Quezon City had an approved budget of P12 billion in 2012.

Earlier, Mayor Herbert Bautista asked the city council to approve a supplemental budget of over P2 billion on top of the approved P13.4-billion budget for this year to finance various projects.

Two ordinances are pending before the city council, which will pave the way for the allocation of an additional P438 million and P1.6 billion budget, respectively.

Liban said the local finance committee has attested the existence of available funds in the city’s coffers.

The P438.4 million will be used for various socialized housing programs in the city.

The P1.6-billion supplemental budget, on the other hand, will be used for various programs, such as training and scholarship expenses, repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment and other maintenance and operating expenses.

It will be used for the construction of office and school buildings and improvement of roads, parks, plazas and monuments.
