Australian jumps to death from hotel

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 65-year-old Australian bachelor jumped to his death from the 21st floor of the Atrium Hotel in Pasay City yesterday morning.

Robert Andrews checked into the hotel on Aug. 27 and arranged to stay until Aug. 31, but later extended his stay for three more days, investigators Senior Police Officer 1 Cris Gabutin and Police Officer 1 Giovanni Arcinue said.

Driver Fredie Seguvia told police that he was waiting for a hotel guest when he saw the victim fall and hit a power line before landing on the pavement.

Investigators said police officers found a three-page suicide note in Andrews’ room, in which he apologized for committing “this terrible crime” and while he “planned something more tidy, but lack of finances meant it finishes like this.”

He also wrote that he has no family or friends who need to be reached.
