MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City council approved yesterday a resolution urging television networks based in the city to flash the time at least every hour as part of their public service announcements.
The measure, authored by third district Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes, said allotting a certain amount of airtime to announce the time would be beneficial to both the viewing public and the government as it would promote the synchronized time system in the country.
“It is imperative that we have a standard and synchronized time system in our country to help us manage both our time and our lives,” read the measure.
The council noted that most of the major television networks – ABS-CBN, PTV, TV5, GMA, 9News, GMA News TV, IBC, and ABS-CBN Sports+Action, among others – are based in Quezon City.
The council said radio stations in the Philippines already take part in regularly announcing the time for the benefit of its listeners.
A copy of the measure will be forwarded to all television stations based in the city.
