Cop kills 2 gas station robbers
MANILA, Philippines - It was an unlucky hit for two robbers targeting a Quezon City gasoline station as it turned out that one of the customers gassing up was a policeman.
Police Officer 2 Cesar Tolentino managed to kill the two robbers during the ensuing gun battle in Barangay Baesa on Sunday night.
Tolentino, of the Caloocan police station, was gassing up when the robbers struck at around 7 p.m. along Quirino Highway, said Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, director of the Quezon City Police District.
Before the encounter, the two unidentified robbers drove up to the gas station on a motorcycle that had yet to be registered.
The man riding at the back alighted and went to the cashier, from whom he took more than P500 of the gas station’s earnings.
An attendant alerted Tolentino, who was then at another booth, about the ongoing heist.
Tolentino introduced himself as a police officer and approached the robbers, who sped off.
The backrider allegedly opened fire, forcing Tolentino to shoot back, killing both robbers.
