MANILA, Philippines - With the repair of the Magallanes interchange’s second level complete, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said yesterday it plans to fix the damaged sections of the structure’s third level.
DPWH-National Capital Region director Reynaldo Tagudando said they will ask permission from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to repair the third level, which leads to Makati, EDSA and Roxas Boulevard, by this weekend or the next.
“We would work on both lanes but there is no need for closure of the third level since we would do the repairs one lane at a time” and one lane could still be used by the motorists, he said.
He said they need to do repairs on the third level to prevent the 39-year-old structure from collapsing.
Meanwhile, the MMDA has deployed additional personnel to make sure that only light vehicles pass through the interchange’s southbound second level. Tagudando said the lane will be open to heavy vehicles tomorrow to allow the cement – 35 centimeters thick – to harden.
