Woman jumps off EDSA-Taft footbridge
MANILA, Philippines - A woman was hurt when she jumped off a footbridge at EDSA’s north-bound lane near the rotunda at Taft Avenue in Pasay City yesterday.
A report reaching the Southern Police District identified the woman as Angelica Ambulario. She was later rushed to the nearby San Juan de Dios Hospital and was declared out of danger by doctors.
According to Senior Police Officer 1 Evaristo Sarang-ey of the Pasay City police, Ambulario leapt from the steps of the footbridge about eight feet above the pavement and landed on the sidewalk at past 11 a.m.
Sarang-ey said Ambulario, 19, would not say why she jumped.
“She would not talk to me. But when I asked for her name and age, she wrote it down,” he said.
Sarang-ey said Ambulario had no identification documents with her. She, however, had P500, a Light Rail Transit fare card and a receipt for medicine bought from a drugstore in Blumentritt, Manila.
“She appears to be mentally ill and could have wandered to Pasay from Manila,” he said.
Sarang-ey said Ambulario will be released to her relatives once she is discharged from the Pasay City General Hospital, where she was later transferred.
