Malabon pol wanted for teen’s rape

MANILA, Philippines - A politician based in Malabon was charged yesterday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl last Monday.

Eddie Nolasco, 60, who served three terms as city councilor and three terms as chairman of Barangay Potrero, has gone into hiding, police said.

Nolasco is the father of incumbent Barangay Potrero chair Sheryl Nolasco, Councilor Edward Nolasco and another barangay official.

Malabon police chief Senior Superintendent Severino Abad said Karen Mawac allegedly brought the girl to a car shop owned by Nolasco at around 2 a.m. on Monday and offered the teen money to have sex with him.

The girl said Nolasco gave her P1,000 after she had sex with him and told her to give Mawac P100.

Accompanied by her mother and grandmother, the girl went to the police station and filed a complaint.

The girl told police she agreed to have sex with Nolasco because she was afraid, saying the man has a “reputation for firing his gun indiscriminately whenever he is drunk.”

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has taken custody of the girl.
