MANILA, Philippines - A sexagenarian woman and her 35-year-old daughter were found dead inside their house in Quezon City shortly after midnight yesterday in what police said could be a case of parricide and suicide.
Investigators believe that Arsenia Carabeo, 63, stabbed to death her daughter, Joanne, before she committed suicide, said Superintendent Osmundo de Guzman, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 1.
Probers discovered a suicide note supposedly signed by the mother and daughter, indicating they had both wanted to die, said Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo, head of the QCPD’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
Their helper, Lydia Malaho, said she was roused from sleep when she heard them moaning.
When she checked, Malaho saw Arsenia holding a knife while seated in a rocking chair.
Joanne, on the other hand, was sprawled bloodied on the floor.
The housemaid called relatives of the two women and rushed them to the hospital but they were declared dead an hour later.
Police said Arsenia suffered a laceration in the neck. Joanne bore three stab wounds in the chest.
