MANILA, Philippines - Two truck drivers and their helpers were hurt in a six-vehicle smashup along C-5 Road in Pasig City before dawn yesterday.

The incident caused a traffic gridlock at the corner of C-5 Road and Ortigas Avenue that lasted at least four hours.

The injured truck drivers were identified as Romulo Dipad Jr. and Lyn Barnego Balayo.

Balayo was pinned in his truck and it took Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) an hour to free him.

He and three others were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police Officer 3 Edwin Cruz said Balayo was driving the trailer truck on C-5 Road’s northbound lane when he suddenly made an illegal left turn toward Ortigas Avenue at past 4 a.m.

Balayo’s truck hit the other 10-wheeler truck and caused two taxis and two motorcycles to hit the trucks.

Cruz is readying appropriate charges against Balayo.
