Cop killed in Marikina

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants at the parking lot of a cockfighting arena in Marikina City Wednesday.

Senior Police Officer 2 Gilbert Peralta, assigned at the field office of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Quezon City, died on the way to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Senior Superintendent Roberto Fajardo, head of the CIDG’s National Capital Region office, said they are looking at all angles in Peralta’s killing.

The police said Peralta was conducting a surveillance operation in the area when he was killed.

However, sources told The STAR that Peralta reportedly sponsored a derby at the San Roque arena in Barangay San Roque Wednesday. He was approaching his parked Toyota Fortuner when he was attacked.

Peralta reportedly owned several video karera machines in Cubao, Quezon City and was a bagman of a certain Major Sy in the CIDG field office.
