LTO defers ‘no plate, no travel’ policy

MANILA, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has deferred the enforcement of the “no plate, no travel” policy.

The LTO was supposed to implement the policy of apprehending vehicles without the new standard license plates starting tomorrow, but the agency decided to postpone it due to a request by car dealers.

Jason Salvador, spokesperson for LTO, said car manufacturers and dealers have been encountering problems in delivering the new license plates to their customers.

“We would like to be sensitive to the sentiments of the industry players so the agency decided to defer the implementation of the policy,” Salvador said.

Under the policy, motorists caught traveling without the new license plates will be fined P5,000.
