DPWH to close Sucat interchange bridge for 45 days

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Starting Saturday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will close the east-bound lane of Sucat Interchange Bridge to give way for its rehabilitation, which will last 45 days.

The DPWH advised motorists to brace for heavy traffic.

In a letter to Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, DPWH district engineer Wilfredo Mallari said they would conduct a dry run and close the east-bound lane of the bridge (from Dr. A. Santos Avenue to the Muntinlupa side of the bridge) today.

Work on the interchange bridge is expected to be completed by Sept. 15.

Olivarez said he has ordered the city’s Traffic Management Office to look for alternative routes for motorists who will be affected by the bridge repair.

“We will look into the possibility of imposing a truck ban and color coding scheme to reduce traffic volume in the affected routes and ease the burden of commuters during the duration of the bridge repair,” he said.

Areas that will be affected by the bridge closure are Dr. A. Santos Avenue (Sucat Road) as well as the East and West Service Roads along the South Luzon Expressway.

“We hope that the DPWH and the traffic management personnel of the Skyway Operations and Maintenance Corp., which has jurisdiction over the interchange, will be able to complete the bridge repair on time,” Olivarez said.
