MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education yesterday authorized the suspension of classes in 32 elementary and high schools in Quezon City in time for President Aquino’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
In a memorandum to school principals, division superintendent Ponciano Menguito allowed the school principals of 21 elementary schools and 11 high schools to suspend classes to minimize traffic congestion.
The elementary schools concerned are the Commonwealth, Pres. Corazon Aquino, Doña Juana, Lagro, Holy Spirit, North Fairview, Bagong Silangan, Culiat, New Era, Melencio Castelo, Payatas B, Payatas B-Annex, Payatas C, Lupang Pangako, San Diego, Fairview, Benigno Aquino, Manuel Quezon, West Fairview, Old Balara, and Balara.
Meanwhile, high schools allowed to suspend classes are Commonwealth, Batasan Hills, Judge Feliciano Belmonte, Holy Spirit, Lagro, North Fairview, Bagong Silangan, Culiat, New Era, Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma, and Balara.
In a text message, city administrator Aldrin Cuña said there will be no city-wide class suspension in anticipation of SONA this year.
