MANILA, Philippines - A businessman and a customs broker were charged before the Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday for allegedly smuggling P310 million worth of assorted counterfeit products from China.

Bureau of Customs commissioner John Sevilla said they filed charges against Herman dela Cruz, owner and general manager of Amazing Glory General Merchandise in Manila; and licensed customs broker Dennis Bancairen.

The shipment arrived in two 40-foot shipping containers at the Manila International Container Port last April. They yielded counterfeit versions of branded perfumes, wipes, bags, wallets, clothes, and local brands of seasonings and jeans, the BOC said.

Sevilla said the imitations will be destroyed.
