Bautista gets council nod for P500-M infra projects

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Council has approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Herbert Bautista to enter into agreements with bidders for over P500 million worth of infrastructure projects in the city.

The resolution was passed even as a similar measure is pending approval of the local legislators.

Among the projects identified in the approved measure are the construction of Phase 2 of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management building for P103.2 million and a four-story, 21-classroom building at the Payatas C Elementary School for P128.6 million.

The council also allowed Bautista to enter into contracts with bidders for eight flood control projects worth P108 million.

The resolution was authored by Councilors Godofredo Liban, Jesus Manuel Suntay and Franz Pumaren.

Last week, Suntay and Liban filed a similar measure asking their colleagues to allow the mayor to enter into agreements with winning bidders for the implementation of infrastructure projects amounting to around P600 million.

The projects include the construction of two four-story buildings with 30 classrooms worth over P100 million each at the San Diego Elementary School and the President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School; a four-story building with 15 classrooms worth P69 million at the Payatas B Elementary School, and the Quezon City Public Library at the Quezon Memorial Circle worth P116 million.

Other projects lined up in the pending measure are the construction of a civic center,  a justice building at the city hall complex, various socialized housing units and development of roads and drainage systems.
