2 more escaped inmates recaptured

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two more inmates who escaped from the Mandaluyong City police jail Monday were recaptured yesterday.

This developed as Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr. ordered repairs at the jail to prevent another jailbreak.

Theft suspect Alber Llaneta was arrested in his house on Fabella street while Nelson Yambao, charged with robbery, was apprehended at his home in Welfareville Compound, Barangay Addition Hills.

Earlier, Gabby Capis-trano, who was charged with theft, was collared in his residence at Welfareville Compound.

Mandaluyong police chief Senior Superintendent Tyrone Masigon said three tracker teams are on the trail of the nine other escapees – Anjo Remanes, Archie Pacheco, Alexander de la Cruz, Celestino Lopez, Jayson Santos, Jordan Villadolid, Noel Gonzales, Rogelio Reyes and Fernando Nana Jr.

Masigon said Capistrano, Yambao and Llaneta pointed to Villadolid, who is facing falsification of public document charges, as the one who plotted the jailbreak.

It was Villadolid’s wife who smuggled in the iron saw the inmates used in destroying the four iron bars ventilation window of the toilet found at the far end of Cell No. 1 located at the ground floor of the Mandaluyong City police station, they said.

According to Capistrano, he has no plans of joining the mass escape but Villadolid reportedly threatened them with bodily harm.

Masigon said the inmates destroyed the padlock of the storage room on the second floor and escaped.

Cops sacked

Because of the incident, Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Abelardo Villacorta ordered the relief of jail supervisor Reynigildo Suarez, detention cell supervisor PO3 Mateo Naayao Jr. and jail guards PO3 Edwin Quiale, PO1 Jose Garcia Zapata and a certain PO3 Pasco.

Naayao was also charged with evasion through negligence before the Mandaluyong City prosecutor’s office for the mass escape.

Villacorta ordered the five policemen placed under “floating status” while they are under investigation for alleged negligence.
