QC eyes P600-M infra projects

MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has asked the city council to allow him to enter into contracts with winning bidders for the construction of infrastructure projects amounting to around P600 million.

“The Office of the Mayor is requesting for authorization to enter into an agreement with the winning bidders for various infrastructure projects having an amount of P10 million and above,” read the proposed resolution pending before the city council.

The measure was introduced by Councilors Bong Suntay and Godofredo Liban.

Based on the resolution, the request for authorization covers 15 infrastructure projects with a total amount of P593.4 million.

It includes the construction of two four-story buildings with 30 classrooms worth over P100 million each at the San Diego Elementary School and President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School.

Another four-story building with 15 classrooms worth P69 million will be constructed at the Payatas B Elementary School.

The city allotted P116 million for the construction of the Quezon City Public Library at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The local government plans to implement the construction of Phase 2 of the civic center at the city hall complex (P17.3 million), Phase 4 of the new justice building (P20.3 million) and construction of socialized housing units in Barangay Sto. Niño (P38 million).

Socialized housing units worth P11 million and a health center worth P10 million will be constructed in the city this year.

The city will build a box culvert in Barangay San Bartolome and a retaining wall in Sarmiento Creek worth P10.8 million and P11.8 million, respectively.

The local government will earmark P37.6 million for road and drainage improvements in Veterans Village and Payatas.
