Victims’ kin kills robber in P5-M heist

MANILA, Philippines - One of two robbers was shot dead by their victims’ relative during a P5-million heist at a house in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.

Barbara Hizon was also shot during the struggle for a gun used by one of the men who robbed her mother, Elizabeth Hizon, said Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano.

Albano said a relative of the victims, identified only as Jon-Jon, shot and killed one of the robbers during the heist outside their house in Barangay Bahay Toro at past 2 p.m. It was unclear whether he used his own gun or that of the robbers.

The other robber managed to escape on a motorcycle with the elder Hizon’s bag containing P5 million.

Police said Barbara had just withdrawn the P5 million from a bank and the robbers may have tailed the woman’s car until she reached home.

When the elder Hizon reached the house’s gate, the robbers grabbed her bag. Barbara witnessed the incident and grabbed the gun of one of the robbers.
