British man, 2 others arrested for swindling

MANILA, Philippines - A British man and two others were arrested in Quezon City Monday night for allegedly swindling at least P120,000 from two women by charging them processing fees for nonexistent caregiver jobs in London.

Saj Warren, alias Warren Kanaga, claimed to be a manager of a recruitment agency sending Filipino workers abroad, according to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief Director Benjamin Magalong.

Warren’s two companions, Jealyn Caspe, 30, and Chuche Tecson, 36, were arrested in a sting set up by the CIDG’s Anti-Transnational Crime Unit,  headed by Senior Superintendent John Guyguyon.

The sting stemmed from complaints filed by a nurse from Davao and a housewife from Cagayan de Oro, who told the CIDG they had flown to Manila last June and had been waiting to be deployed to London.

They alleged that Warren demanded that they pay him more money so they could be immediately deployed abroad.

Guyguyon said Warren has a pending illegal recruitment case filed by a University of the Philippines professor.

The three suspects are being held at the CIDG’s detention facility while investigators prepare to charge them with illegal recruitment, he said.
