MANILA, Philippines - A suspected robber was killed in a reported shootout with police officers in Malabon City Sunday morning.
Investigators said several persons went to Police Community Precinct 4 and reported they had been robbed along Acero street in Barangay Tugatog at around 5:30 a.m.
Chief Inspector Fernando Tariga, the Malabon police’s investigation chief, said police officers from the precinct accompanied the complainants to the area and saw Sandil Martin, a resident of the barangay, walking on the street.
The complainants gave chase when Martin ran toward an alley. He reportedly pulled out a gun and fired several shots into the air, scaring his pursuers.
The suspect then shot at the police officers, triggering a shootout. Minutes later, Martin lay dead on the pavement, with three gunshot wounds in the body.
This is the second time in less than a week that a shootout was reported to have happened between the Malabon police and a suspected criminal.
Last Thursday, Ceferino Sanoy Jr., 26, died after he allegedly traded shots with responding policemen from the Malabon PCP 8.
