Maynilad starts building P1-B sewage plant in Pasay

MANILA, Philippines - Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) announced yesterday that it has begun the construction of a P1-billion sewage treatment plant in Barangay Malibay, Pasay City. 

The facility is designed to treat up to 46,600 cubic meters of wastewater per day, equivalent to almost 2.5 million five-gallon water containers.

Maynilad said the sewage plant can serve up to 254,000 people in Pasay and Makati and once operational, it will help clear the Maricaban Creek, which leads to Manila Bay.

Partly funded by the West Zone water concessionaire’s World Bank loan, the facility will use the “activated sludge process or ASP,” a technology used worldwide for wastewater treatment.

But Maynilad said it used a more compact process for the ASP’s primary treatment to reduce the space requirement since the plant was being built on a small area. 

“We are driven to look for innovative ways to ensure the proper treatment and disposal of wastewater in our concession area,” Maynilad president and CEO Ricky Vargas said.
