Rape suspect runs amuck at EPD annex
MANILA, Philippines - A drunk towing truck driver, arrested for allegedly trying to rape a relative, ran amuck at the Eastern Police District (EPD) annex building Sunday.
Florendo Mangaoang, 28, assaulted police officers, banged his head and body against a wall and ran out of the building, where he was nearly hit by a passing taxi until police officers caught him and returned him to the building.
Police Officer 1 Yob Enquio said Mangaoang’s relative was bringing him to his house in Quezon City on a motorcycle Sunday night. When they reached Cubao, Mangaoang reportedly tried to force her to drive to a motel.
The relative told investigators she convinced Mangaoang to drop the idea, drove back to Pasig City, stopped at the EPD annex building and sought Enquio’s help.
Investigators are preparing charges of attempted rape, direct assault, resistance and disobedience to a police officer and alarm and scandal against Mangaoang, who is now behind bars.
