Makati cops foil British woman’s suicide try

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Makati police officers prevented a 26-year-old British woman from jumping to her death in Barangay Poblacion yesterday morning.

Nathali Lian Islam had threatened to jump off the second floor terrace of the Virra Condominium along P. Burgos St. at about 9:15 a.m., acting Makati police chief, Senior Superintendent Jaime Santos said.

Santos said a rescue team composed of officers from the Police Sub-station 6, Makati Rescue and the Special Reaction Unit of the Makati Fire Department arrived at the scene and tried to approach Islam.

According to Santos, Islam – who appeared to be depressed – then sat on the edge of the terrace and threatened to jump.

Santos said that Islam suddenly started crying as she sat on the ledge. This gave members of the rescue team the chance to approach her and take her down safely.

Islam was then brought to the Ospital ng Makati for treatment, said Santos.
