Driver found dead in taxi

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating the case of a cab driver found dead inside his vehicle in Quezon City on Friday.

Inspector Elmer Monsalve, head of the Homicide Investigation Section of the Quezon City Police District, said Hilario Mata, 46, died after he was repeatedly shot in his Reymiles Transport Inc. cab on Friday morning. The cab was found parked in Gem Subdivision in Barangay Baesa at past 7 a.m.

Before the discovery of the body, a helper at one of the houses heard shots fired outside but ignored it as she was working.

When she went out a few minutes later, she found the cab with the lifeless driver inside.

Mata was slumped on the driver’s seat of the cab, Monsalve said.

According to Monsalve, the driver died of a gunshot wound on his head and two more on the right side of his torso.

Crime scene investigators found fired cartridges and bullet fragments from a .9mm pistol.
