Cop sued for refusing to probe extort case

Aie Balagtas See - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A businesswoman filed charges yesterday against a police officer in Manila for refusing to investigate a case of extortion she wanted to file.

“He said it would be a waste of paper. He said we should have filed a complaint with the barangay,” said Josephine Nagac, quoting the words reportedly said by Senior Police Officer 2 Darwin Meneses of the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 6.

Nagac filed a complaint against Meneses with the MPD’s general assignment section. The nature of the complaint was not specified.

She alleged that Meneses sat on her complaint against an unidentified man – whom she said was an extortionist – for attacking her twice on Suiter street in Sta. Ana at around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Nagac also said Meneses refused to look at a blotter entry she filed on May 31, alleging that the same man blocked her path and demanded money as she was delivering some goods in the area.

Nagac said she reported the May 31 incident to the MPD Station 6 but the station’s police officers failed to arrest the extortionist.
