Chinese robbed by taxi driver
MANILA, Philippines - A Chinese woman was robbed and hit with a tire wrench on the head by a taxi driver in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.
Patrolling policemen found Chen Jun bleeding inside the cab and rushed her to the hospital, Superintendent Danilo Pecana, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 8, said.
The operator of the taxi identified the cabbie as Simeon Abad, who escaped after taking the victim’s bag.
Police said the suspect abandoned the victim inside his cab along Katipunan Avenue.
Pecana said Jun rode the cab with license plate UVZ-437 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at past 4 a.m. and asked to be brought to a bus terminal in Cubao.
While traversing EDSA, the cabbie changed his course and headed toward Katipunan Avenue. He declared the heist upon reaching Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
The Chinese refused to yield her bag, prompting the taxi driver to smash her head with a tire wrench.
The cabbie fled with the victim’s bag containing P3,000 cash, cell phone, a camera, passport and identification cards.
