Muntinlupa cop slain in Las Piñas

MANILA, Philippines - An off-duty Muntinlupa City policeman was gunned down by unidentified assailants along Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Piñas before dawn yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Louie Soledad, detailed with Police Community Precinct 5, was standing in front of the Caritas Financial Plans office at around 2:40 a.m. when two men on a motorcycle appeared, according to reports reaching the Southern Police District (SPD).

Witnesses said the victim shouted, “Pare, wag na (Friend, don’t)!” to the assailants but one of them drew a .45 caliber pistol from a bag and shot him.

Investigators recovered at least nine spent bullet shells at the crime scene.

The SPD said the assailants grabbed the victim’s bag then  sped away after the shooting while Soledad died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Las Piñas police is still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.
