Farmers set to protest CARP

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Farmers of Central Luzon are set to mark the 26th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) on June 10 with a march to Malacañang to merge with farmers from other regions to protest what they say as the government’s “bogus land reform.”

The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and its regional organizations, including those organized in haciendas in Central Luzon, dubbed the protest march as “Lakbayan ng mga Biktima ng CARP para sa Tunay na Reporma sa Lupa.”

The KMP said that since the agrarian reform program would expire on June 30, the House Committee on Agrarian Reform “railroaded” House Bill 4296 granting another two-year extension for the program.– Ding Cervantes, Michelle Zoleta
