Former Malabon chairman gunned down

MANILA, Philippines - A former chairman of Barangay Catmon, Malabon City was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle yesterday afternoon.

Jojo Cruz, 50, had just alighted from his vehicle along Gov. Pascual street when the assailants struck shortly before 1 p.m., according to a report.

Cruz was declared dead on arrival at the Pagamutang Lungsod ng Malabon from two gunshot wounds.

A witness told police he saw the assailants “waiting for someone a few hours before” the attack.

The victim’s brother, Barangay Catmon chairman Mario Cruz, told police his brother survived an ambush several months ago.

Investigators did not discount the possibility that politics could be the motive for Cruz’s murder.
