Man beats up pregnant partner

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - An alleged drug addict was arrested in Valenzuela City yesterday morning for allegedly beating up his partner, who is three months pregnant.

Romeo Estones, 29, was charged with physical injuries in relation to Republic Act 9262, the law penalizing violence against women and their children, after Perlita Alnado filed a complaint, said Inspector Josephine Dalumpines, Valenzuela police women’s and children’s concerns desk chief.

Alnado told police she tried to talk to Estones yesterday morning to stop his drug use and save the money for their baby, but the idea did not sit well with him.

“I told him to stop drinking and taking shabu because he had been vomiting blood, but he got mad and beat me up. He had been beating me for four years,” she said.

Estones denied the allegations but was silent when asked how his partner got her bruises.
