Universities, colleges warned vs solicitations

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has warned state universities and colleges (SUCs) and private higher education institutions against solicitations made by persons claiming to be officials and employees of the agency.

“We have been notified that unscrupulous individuals have been calling SUCs to solicit donations, financial favors or privileged information using the name of some CHED officials,” CHED chairperson Patricia Licuanan said.

Recently, Licuanan said a certain Atty. De Jesus falsely represented himself as a member of the staff of a CHED commissioner.

“These individuals apparently use different schemes, tactics and mobile numbers to mislead our SUCs,” she said.

Licuanan advised the public to report solicitations of unscrupulous individuals at telephone numbers (02) 4411404 or (02) 4411257.

She said the CHED Code of Conduct prohibits solicitation of any kind from any stakeholder of the agency.

She added criminal and administrative charges can be filed against government officials for violating, among others the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees.
