Boy, 7, kills 6-year-old playmate

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A seven-year-old boy and his parents ended up at Camp Karingal in Quezon City after the boy stabbed his playmate, a six-year-old girl, with a barbecue stick yesterday morning.

The boy sat on his mother’s lap, seemingly unaware of the questions police officers asked his parents. He was clad in a tank top, a pair of shorts and slippers and it was not clear whether he knew that his playmate had died in a hospital minutes after he stabbed her in the abdomen.

His eyes wandered around the office as a police officer talked to his mother.

The first grader was brought to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Women and Children’s Protection Desk following the incident that occurred at past 8 a.m. yesterday.

Taunts

Two children were playing on the street and the girl kept on pinching the boy, who was on all fours, said QCPD spokesperson Senior Inspector Maricar Taqueban.

The boy, apparently irked by the girl’s repeated taunts, grabbed a barbecue stick lying on the ground with his left hand. Without looking, the boy stabbed the girl, who was standing behind him.

Police Officer 2 Alvin Quisumbing said the stick pierced the girl’s bladder.

The victim’s 28-year-old mother rushed her to the Novaliches General Hospital, where she died minutes later.
