‘Wife-beater’ dies of heat stroke

MANILA, Philippines - A man who was charged with beating his wife suffered heat stroke while in jail and died while being treated at a hospital in Caloocan City Saturday night.

According to police reports, Rolando Dador, 59, was arrested on May 4 based on a complaint filed by his wife, Nely. He was charged with violating Republic Act 9262, the law penalizing violence against women and their children, and detained at the Caloocan police Sub-station 1 after failing to post bail.

On Friday, Dador complained of breathing difficulties and was confined at the Caloocan Medical Center after he was also diagnosed with hypertension. He died the following day.
