MANILA, Philippines - Around 100 families were rendered homeless when a fire broke out at a residential area in Quezon City on Tuesday.

An unattended gas stove could have sparked the blaze that started in the home of Salome Andaluz, 63, in Barangay Holy Spirit at past 6 p.m., said city fire marshal Senior Superintendent Jesus Fernandez.

Fernandez said the flames immediately spread to nearby houses.

The fire reached Task Force Bravo before it was contained by firefighters at around 8 p.m.

The fire razed some 50 houses. Damage to property was placed at P750,000. The affected residents are temporarily staying at the village hall and along the sidewalk.
