Jordanian faces extortion, assault raps

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Jordanian man is facing multiple criminal charges for extorting money and beating a Filipina and cursing at a policeman at a mall in Ermita, Manila Monday afternoon.

Salah Jomuah Sulaiman Abous, also known as Sammy Sara, 52, was charged with illegal recruitment, scandal and alarm, physical injury, robbery extortion and resisting arrest before the city prosecutor’s office yesterday.

The case stemmed from the complaint of Hazel Quinto, 36, and her niece Janette Collado, 26.  According to Quinto, Abous promised to help Collado apply for a job in Dubai, but her niece got tired of waiting and wanted her passport back.

At the mall, Collado asked for the passport. Abous brought it out but demanded payment. Quinto said she stopped her niece from paying the Jordanian, prompting Abous to punch her.

Police Officer 1 Gilbert Lim saw the commotion and arrested Abous.
