Metro Manila goes dry

MANILA, Philippines - Large areas of Metro Manila went dry starting yesterday as a flood control project got underway.

Water tankers have been deployed to various parts of the metropolis to provide water to more than 400,000 affected residents, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) said.

MWSS acting chief regulator Emmanuel Caparas said they have dispatched a monitoring team to check areas affected by the water service cutoff.

The water service interruption will last until Saturday.

“We have deployed our team to assess the situation and assure the residents of continuous water supply to affected areas,” Caparas said.

The Maynilad Water Services has deployed more than 100 tankers to distribute water to around 800 barangays  in Metro Manila and Cavite.

Maynilad urged its customers in affected areas to store water for the duration of the water service cutoff.

Cherubim Mojica, head of Maynilad’s corporate communications office, said the Manila City government will deploy 26 water tankers.

The affected areas are Manila, Makati, Malabon, Navotas, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Pasay and Parañaque. Some areas in Cavite will also experience water service cutoff.

The water supply interruption was due to the flood control work of the Department of Public Works and Highways.
