Man hangs self after siblings’ suicides

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 23-year-old man hanged himself Monday afternoon, a year after his elder brother committed suicide and after his elder sister took her own life last month.

Johnson Cielo’s mother found her son hanging in the bathroom of their house in Barrio Concepcion, Tala shortly before 1 p.m.

She told police that Cielo was sleeping when she went to market at around 11:30 a.m. When she returned, she looked for him and one of their relatives told her that her son had gone to the bathroom.

The mother said she knocked on the bathroom door and when no one answered, she asked her neighbor’s help to break down the door.

Cielo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.

Cielo’s siblings also committed suicide in their house, the victim’s mother told police. Investigators are trying to determine why the siblings had killed themselves.

Ateneo student takes own life

Meanwhile, a student of the Ateneo de Manila University allegedly committed suicide on Monday by shooting himself in the head while in their house in Quezon City.

The bloody body of Brian Lawrence Go, 19,  was found in the bathroom by his sister at past 9 a.m. Monday, Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo said. A 9mm Heckler and Koch pistol, reportedly owned by his father, was found near the victim.

Go’s sister had gone to his room to wake him up, but when she saw he was not in bed, she checked the bathroom and found him on the floor, Marcelo said.

The sister shouted for help, alerting their father, who rushed to the room, according to Marcelo.

Based on what was believed to be a suicide note, Marcelo said the teen was reportedly having personal problems. – Rey Galupo, Reinir Padua
