MANILA, Philippines - One of the men accosted for carrying 10 kilos of shabu in Binondo, Manila on Tuesday is also wanted by different courts in Metro Manila for multiple criminals charges, including rape.
Anthony Ang Chiu is wanted for three counts of rape in Quezon City court, two counts of serious illegal detention in Valenzuela City court, and grave threats before a Caloocan court.
“We found out about the charges during our background investigation,†said Superintendent Raymund Liguden, commander of Manila Police District Station 11 (not Station 1 as earlier reported).
Chiu and John Chua Sy were accosted in front of a condominium building near Station 11 or the Meisic police station at about 5:30 a.m. for reportedly smoking marijuana.
They were holding two trolley bags, which they brought with them to the police station. When asked to open the luggage, the two refused.
The police officers later found that the bags contained 10 packs of shabu (weighing 10 kilos, not five as earlier reported). Liguden pegged its street value at P118 million.
Chiu said he did not know the bags contained illegal drugs as a Chinese man, whose identity he withheld, asked him to bring the luggage to the airport for P2,500.
Liguden said the two will be charged with use and possession, as well as transportation, of illegal drugs.
