Michael Punongbayan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - At least 120 families were rendered homeless when a three-hour fire broke out at a residential area in Barangay Valencia, Quezon City Saturday night.

Allan Bermudez, 32, a volunteer from Camp Aguinaldo, suffered an injury on his left shoulder while trying to help firefighters put out the blaze.

The Quezon City fire department said around P1.5 million worth of property went up in smoke.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Mauricio Jose said an unattended gas lamp could have triggered the fire.

He said the fire broke out at 10:40 p.m. and was declared out by 2 a.m. yesterday.

Jose said around 40 houses made of light materials were razed by the fire.
