Ex-lawmaker’s house burglarized
MANILA, Philippines - A former lawmaker lost a gun, cash and jewelry to burglars who broke into his house in Quezon City while his caretaker was away.
The break-in at the residence of Roberto Cajes, 63, at the New Intramuros Village in Barangay Old Balara was discovered Friday night, Police Officer 3 Alvin Quisumbing said.
Cajes was a congressman of Bohol’s second district for three terms, from 2001 to 2010, and was later elected mayor of Trinidad town in Bohol.
Quisumbing said Cajes was not home while his caretaker went home to Bohol on Tuesday, leaving the house locked but unattended.
Quisumbing said a security guard was alerted to the incident when he noticed the house’s front door ajar at around 7 p.m. The guard then reported it to the village president and barangay officials, who found the house had been ransacked. Cajes’ caretaker returned and told policemen that pieces of jewelry, cash and the .45 caliber pistol were taken.
