Man slain in Caloocan shootout

MANILA, Philippines - A 37-year-old man was killed in a shootout with police officers in Caloocan City Saturday night.

According to a police report, Sandy Raymundo was spotted near the barangay hall in Barangay 55 with a gun tucked into his waistband at around 6:20 p.m. A concerned citizen reported the matter to barangay watchmen, who tried to accost him.

Raymundo hailed a tricycle and fled, with the watchmen in pursuit. As the tricycle approached Sevilla street, Police Officers 1 Edwin Lapatap and Heart Carl Gonzales, who were on patrol, saw the commotion.

The police officers tried to approach Raymundo, who reportedly shot at them. The lawmen fired back and hit Raymundo, who died on the scene.

Police are still investigating why Raymundo was armed and why he was in the area.
