Caloocan barangay chairman slain in ambush

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A barangay chairman was killed in an ambush in Tala, Caloocan City yesterday morning.

Barangay 183 chairman Pedro Ramirez was standing in front of a hardware store along Quirino Highway shortly before 8 a.m. when two men on a motorcycle shot him several times then sped away, Caloocan police investigation chief Superintendent Ferdinand del Rosario said.

Ramirez was declared dead on arrival at the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital.

A source said Ramirez may have been involved “in a land dispute with illegal settlers in his jurisdiction, and it could be the reason why he was silenced.”
