MANILA, Philippines - A man died and around 100 families lost their homes after a fire broke out at a residential area in Caloocan City yesterday afternoon.

Initial reports identified the casualty as a certain Jason Dado, who was allegedly sleeping in his house when the fire started at past noon along Calaanan street in Barangay 86.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire that reached Task Force Bravo before it was declared under control around 3 p.m.

An estimated P3 million worth of properties were damaged by the blaze.

Heavy traffic was experienced in the area during the fire as EDSA’s southbound lane near Monumento was closed to vehicles.

Residents affected by the blaze also moved to the center island of the thoroughfare following the incident.
