Binay warns public vs scholarship scam

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Beware of scholarship scams using the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Vice President Jejomar Binay warned the public yesterday.

Binay made the warning after receiving reports that Teresita Gesta of the H-World Divine Fellowship, Inc. is using his name to solicit money in exchange for scholarship grants.

He said reports reaching him alleged that Gesta posed as a coordinator from the OVP and went from house to house in Tanauan, Batangas to offer scholarship grants in exchange for P1,000.

“We do not ask anything in return for our scholarship grants. More importantly, our office does not have coordinators who offer scholarships,” Binay said.

“Those who want to apply for scholarship grants can go directly to our office or send the requirements via mail,” he added.
