MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City councilor has filed a proposed resolution supporting the measure filed by Speaker Feliciano Belmonte seeking to amend the economic provisions of the Constitution.

In his proposed measure, third district Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes said the city shares the belief of Belmonte – the city’s fourth district representative and former three-term mayor – that the restrictive economic provisions of the Charter must be lifted in order to realize inclusive growth.

Reyes said the proposed amendments to the Charter will enable Congress “to pass new laws on matters of foreign ownership of lands, areas of investments, educational institutions, media and advertising organizations and the operation of public utilities in the country.”

Once approved by the city council, a copy of the resolution will be sent to the Office of the President, Office of Senate President Franklin Drilon and the Speaker’s office for their appropriate action.

The committee on constitutional amendments approved Belmonte’s measure on March 5.
