2 hurt in drunken rampage

MANILA, Philippines - A 36-year-old man and a six-year-old girl were wounded when their neighbor went on a drunken rampage in Valenzuela City Sunday afternoon.

Carlito German was gathering earthworms, with sixth grader Mary Joy Syquio beside him along Gumamela street at past noon when Roberto Canoy, 50, attacked them, according to a police report.

Canoy hacked German in the neck and Syquio in the legs.

Their neighbors came to the victims’ rescue and subdued Canoy. They reportedly beat him up before bringing him to the police station, where he was charged with frustrated murder and attempted homicide in relation to Republic Act 7610, the anti-child abuse law.
