MANILA, Philippines - After his one-week romance with his girlfriend ended, a street vendor killed his rival, who was walking home with the woman in Quezon City on Sunday night.
Benjie Diaz, 38, also a vendor, died on the scene from the wounds inflicted by Raymond Irangan along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Capitol Hills past 10 p.m. Irangan’s weapon was a bolo he uses to open coconuts he sold on the street.
Diaz and Irangan were both vying for the affections of a female vendor, said Senior Police Officer 1 Jaime Jimena.
Police said Diaz lived with the woman. Irangan had a weeklong affair with the woman in December last year, but Diaz won her back.
Jimena said Irangan apparently bore a grudge against Diaz for taking his lover away from him.
