MANILA, Philippines - Some 30 families were left homeless by flames that razed a community in Quezon City yesterday.
The flames in Barangay Roxas District destroyed 15 homes and the roof of the house of retired lieutenant general Alberto Braganza.
Quezon City deputy fire marshal Superintendent Samuel Tadeo said an estimated P1 million worth of properties were destroyed. He said an investigation was ongoing to determine what caused the blaze.
Tadeo said flames started from the second floor of Joseph Reyes’ two-story house, which has no electricity. Its occupants use candles, he said.
The fire was reported to have started at around 10:13 a.m. and reached up to the third alarm. Firemen were able to control the blaze at around 10:55 a.m. and put it out an hour later.
