1 hurt in P2-M heist
MANILA, Philippines - A driver was shot as robbers on motorcycles took around P2 million in cash from employees of a jewelry shop Friday afternoon.
Narciso Basiles, 42, driver of R and J Jewelry Inc., suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen during a road robbery in Barangay Nova Proper in Quezon City at around 2 p.m. Friday.
Superintendent Norberto Babagay said around P2 million worth of cash from R and J Jewelry was taken by three men on motorcycles.
Babagay said at least one of the robbers has been identified by the victims from the rogues’ gallery – a compilation of photos of suspected criminals – but he withheld the name due to ongoing follow-up operations.
Basiles drove the Honda CRV of his employer to take employees Rosemarie Badrina and Marilyn Albano to encash a check worth P2 million at a bank.
After encashing the check, they were on their way to deposit the money to another bank along Quirino Highway when the CRV was blocked by three men on two motorcycles.
At gunpoint, Basiles was told to open the door but he refused to do so. One of the robbers shot Basiles through the side window.
After Basiles got shot, the robbers opened the door and took the money from the two employees.
