Foot odor sparks stabbing in San Juan

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A joke over his foul-smelling feet and shoes drove a security guard to stab his colleague in San Juan City Saturday.

Roger Palmes fled after stabbing Domingo Fernandez, 27, in the neck and back. The victim was reported to be fighting for his life at the San Juan Medical Center.

Palmes was drunk when he arrived before midnight Saturday at the boarding house where he, Fernandez and fellow guards Norwell Pascual and Carlo dela Rosa were drinking liquor in their rented room, city police chief Senior Superintendent Joselito Daniel said.

As they continued to drink, Palmes removed his shoes. His colleagues covered their noses because of the stench from his feet and shoes.

According to a report received by Daniel, Fernandez poked fun at Palmes. The two argued and nearly came to blows, but Dela Rosa intervened and tried to pacify them.

At this juncture, Palmes pulled out a fan knife and stabbed Fernandez twice before escaping.
